Jesus’ disciples were hungry on the way, and so they plucked heads of grain and ate them on the Sabbath. Seeing this, the Pharisees denounced Jesus and His disciples. Their accusation was that Jesus and His disciples broke their regulations about the Sabbath. But the Lord said to them, “Have you read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?” And He continued to rebuke their flawed thoughts, saying to them, “Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?”
